R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, El Campo Little League, the 2006 Junior League World
  Series Champion, has been named Achiever of the Year by the El Campo
  Chamber of Commerce and Agriculture; and
         WHEREAS, In earning the right to represent the USA Southwest
  region at the 2006 Junior League World Series in Taylor, Michigan,
  the Texas East state champions went unbeaten in five games at the
  Southwestern regional tournament in Grand Junction, Colorado; this
  was the fourth consecutive year that a team from Texas has claimed
  that honor; and
         WHEREAS, El Campo came into the World Series competition with
  an impressive 17-1 record, having outscored opponents 160-47 in
  those 18 games; the team steadily advanced through its bracket,
  thanks to dominant pitching and timely hitting, before eventually
  facing and defeating West regional champion Pearl City Little
  League of Hawaii to win the United States pool; and
         WHEREAS, In the championship game against international
  representative Mexico, El Campo Little League again relied on
  stellar pitching and airtight defense, as the team scored a
  hard-fought 2-1 victory against the talented Guaymas Little League
  team to secure the championship crown; and
         WHEREAS, Manager Mark Van Gorp and Coach Mitchel Whitely
  guided El Campo to this impressive victory by emphasizing teamwork
  and fundamentals; members of this talented team include Holden
  Whitley, Anthony Cruz, Will Garrett, Garrett Miksik, Michael Van
  Gorp, Colton Green, Tanner Howard, Landon Appling, Travis Deiss,
  Andrew Kinder, and Matthew Hamman; and
         WHEREAS, Winning the Junior League World Series Championship
  is an exceptional achievement for these young athletes and their
  supporters in the community, and the memory of this accomplishment
  will undoubtedly remain with them throughout their lives; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate El Campo Little League on winning
  the Junior League World Series Championship and on receiving the
  Achiever of the Year Award from the El Campo Chamber of Commerce and
  Agriculture; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
