R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Jim McGurk is an inaugural inductee of The
  University of Texas-Pan American Athletics Hall of Fame, and his
  selection for this accolade provides a fitting opportunity to honor
  him and recognize his achievements as a collegiate athlete; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. McGurk played for the Pan American College men's
  basketball team from 1960 to 1964 and led the Broncs to the 1963
  NAIA National Championship, the only men's basketball championship
  in school history; and
         WHEREAS, An honorable mention NAIA All-American in 1962-63,
  Mr. McGurk ranks 10th on the school's all-time scoring list with
  1,281 points; he also ranks third in career rebounds, eighth in
  career field goals made and field goals attempted, and 10th in
  career free throws; and
         WHEREAS, In honoring Mr. McGurk and the athletes,
  individuals, and teams that have brought positive recognition to
  UT-Pan American, the UTPA Athletics Hall of Fame also supports the
  student-athletes of tomorrow by endowing athletic scholarships
  with its proceeds, thus ensuring a bright future for the next
  generation of Broncs; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Jim McGurk on his induction into
  The University of Texas-Pan American Athletics Hall of Fame and
  commend him for his notable achievements; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. McGurk as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
