R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Mario Ward of Live Oak is dedicated to improving the |
|
lives of family and youth in his community, and for this he has been |
|
named a 2006 Hometown Hero; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Hometown Heroes Program, established by Time |
|
Warner Cable in 1998, honors "unsung heroes" who make outstanding |
|
contributions in their communities in behalf of area youth; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in West Germany and raised throughout the |
|
United States as the son of a military family, Mario Ward earned his |
|
bachelor's degree in curriculum and instruction, and his master's |
|
degree in industrial education, at Texas A&M University; he joined |
|
the North East Independent School District in San Antonio in 1983, |
|
the year he obtained his master's, where he currently is assistant |
|
director of risk management; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Ward and his family moved to Live Oak in 1984; |
|
now serving as chair of the City of Live Oak Parks and Recreation |
|
Commission, he has volunteered much time and energy toward |
|
developing recreational events for children and youth in area |
|
parks, including an annual Easter egg hunt, and has organized |
|
activities on National Fishing Day, Park Appreciation Day, and |
|
Halloween; in addition, he is a certified playground safety |
|
inspector and has been an invaluable resource regarding safety and |
|
accessibility improvements to playground equipment, and his |
|
recommendations have resulted in three new playscapes; and |
|
WHEREAS, A member and past president of the Northeast Kiwanis |
|
Club, Mr. Ward also shares his time and talents with Reading is |
|
Fundamental, the Elf Louise Christmas Project, and a program that |
|
helps children learn to fish; moreover, he serves as a committee |
|
member of Cub Scout Pack 239 and as a youth Sunday school teacher |
|
and youth advisory committee member at Live Oak First Baptist |
|
Church; and |
|
WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Ward enjoys the love and |
|
support of his wife, Shari, and his three children, Rebekah, |
|
Patricia, and Brad; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mario Ward inspires others with his passionate |
|
commitment to the growth and success of young Texans, and the city |
|
of Live Oak and the Lone Star State are proud to count him among |
|
their heroes; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commend Mario Ward for his myriad contributions |
|
to the city of Live Oak and congratulate him on his receipt of a 2006 |
|
Hometown Hero award; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Ward as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
