R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is pleased to
  welcome the members of the Parent Association for the Retarded of
  Texas (PART), Inc., who are visiting the State Capitol today; and
         WHEREAS, PART is an association of parents, guardians,
  relatives, and friends of persons with mental retardation, and
  these volunteers are dedicated to preserving, improving, and
  expanding services to assure uniform standards of care and
  treatment for the mentally retarded in the Lone Star State; and
         WHEREAS, This truly humanitarian organization espouses
  continued operation and improvements in the 13 state schools and
  five state centers for the mentally retarded, in addition to
  increasing understanding among the public of all issues affecting
  persons with mental retardation through the gathering and
  distribution of information; and
         WHEREAS, By working with government agencies, PART strives to
  improve the system of care in Texas while promoting research that
  may potentially lead to the prevention of mental retardation in
  many cases; and
         WHEREAS, PART also supports the Volunteer Services Councils,
  whose members have contributed countless hours and financial
  assistance through the years as well as the devoted staffs of the
  state schools and the state centers, acting as an advocate on their
  behalf for increased wages, benefits, and recognition so that
  qualified and dedicated workers will continue to be attracted to
  employment in this field; and
         WHEREAS, The efforts of PART to improve the quality of care
  and services available to the mentally retarded in Texas are truly
  commendable, and its members merit special commendation for
  championing the needs and rights of citizens with mental
  retardation; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby recognize March 27, 2007, as Parent Association
  for the Retarded of Texas Day at the State Capitol and commend the
  organization for its important work.
