R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The celebration of Angelina County Days at the State
  Capitol on February 21 and 22, 2007, provides a fitting opportunity
  to recognize this notable part of the Lone Star State and to welcome
  visitors from the county, including the members of the Lufkin
  Leadership Class of 2007; and
         WHEREAS, The lush forests and rolling hills of Angelina
  County were once home to the Caddo and Atakapa peoples, and legend
  has it that the county was named for a Hainai Indian woman who aided
  Spanish missionaries in East Texas in the late 1600s; the first
  Anglo settlers arrived in 1820, settling near present-day Lufkin;
  the county was organized in 1846 and grew quickly as newcomers were
  attracted by ample farming and grazing land and by ready access to
  the Angelina and Neches Rivers; and
         WHEREAS, Between these two rivers lay vast tracts of timber,
  and with the arrival of the railroads in the 1880s, the lumber trade
  became paramount to the life of Angelina County and continues to
  employ many residents; the county further enjoys the prosperity
  brought by such businesses as the manufacturing of oil-field
  equipment, truck trailers, and mobile homes; the farms and ranches
  of the county are likewise important, producing poultry, beef,
  melons, peaches, and pecans; and
         WHEREAS, A favorite destination for campers, hikers,
  naturalists, and hunters, the Angelina National Forest offers some
  of the finest recreational opportunities in the Piney Woods of East
  Texas; equally popular with lovers of the outdoors is the scenic Sam
  Rayburn Reservoir, which is renowned for its swimming, boating, and
  bass fishing; and
         WHEREAS, Lufkin, the thriving county seat of 33,000 people,
  contains attractions such as the Texas Forestry Museum, the Museum
  of East Texas, the Lufkin Historical and Creative Arts Center, the
  Ellen Trout Zoo, and the Azalea Trail hiking route; and
         WHEREAS, Blessed by natural beauty and enriched by the
  accomplishments of its 81,000 resourceful residents, Angelina
  County is an attractive and dynamic part of East Texas, and the
  members of this chamber are pleased to honor the many significant
  contributions of this fine Texas county; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby recognize February 21 and 22, 2007, as Angelina
  County Days at the State Capitol and extend best wishes to the
  visiting delegation for a rewarding and memorable trip to Austin.
