R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Ala Loretta Hicks of Three Rivers turns 100 on
  February 28, 2007, and she is truly deserving of special
  recognition on this red-letter day; and
         WHEREAS, A native Texan, Ala Loretta Samford was born in
  Tahoka, the oldest of 13 children; she and her husband, Walter
  Lowell Hicks, were married in 1926, in a ceremony held in Carlton,
  and five years later, they moved to Oakville in a covered wagon and
  lived there until moving to Three Rivers in the early 1940s; and
         WHEREAS, Blessed with five children, Walter, Vernon, Curtis,
  J. Louis, and Lindon, Mrs. Hicks enjoys the love and affection of a
  family that has grown to now include 14 grandchildren and 20
  great-grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, Ala Hicks is a talented artist and pianist whose
  exceptional abilities also extend to horticulture and canning;
  further, she is a notable seamstress and quilter, and many in her
  family treasure the quilts she has made; and
         WHEREAS, Deeply devoted to her loved ones, her church, and
  her country, Ala Hicks is cherished for her caring nature, and she
  is celebrated for a century of life well lived; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Ala Loretta Hicks on the occasion
  of her 100th birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes for
  continued happiness and good fortune; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mrs. Hicks as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
