R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The East Texas African American History Celebration
  is taking place on February 25, 2007, at the Jarvis Christian
  College Chapel in Hawkins; and
         WHEREAS, Sponsored by the Eastside Church of Christ in
  Hawkins, this East Texas gathering is part of the congregation's
  ongoing efforts to honor African American heritage and culture; the
  event coincides with the nationwide celebration of Black History
  Month and explores the 2007 national theme, "From Slavery to
  Freedom: Africans in the Americas"; and
         WHEREAS, The East Texas African American History Celebration
  features public speakers addressing this topic and highlighting the
  many accomplishments that black Americans have made to the
  development of the United States; and
         WHEREAS, Dramatic presentations and music will also be an
  exciting part of the festivities, including performances by Shades
  of Blackness, the John Tyler High School Choir, the Stephen F.
  Austin State University Ensemble, the Jarvis Christian College
  Choir, and the Swan Ensemble; and
         WHEREAS, Serving as an uplifting and fun-filled experience
  for people of all ages, the East Texas African American History
  Celebration promotes a deeper understanding of the struggles and
  achievements of the nation's black citizens and, in so doing,
  fosters greater unity among the residents of East Texas; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby recognize the East Texas African American
  History Celebration in Hawkins and extend best wishes to the
  participants for an enjoyable and inspiring gathering; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the event organizers as an expression of high regard by
  the Texas House of Representatives.
