R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Our esteemed colleague, the Honorable Alma A. Allen, |
|
and her husband, Lawrence A. Allen, Sr., are celebrating their 50th |
|
wedding anniversary on February 21, 2007, and they may indeed |
|
reflect with joy on the rewarding relationship they have shared |
|
that has stood the test of time; and |
|
WHEREAS, Longtime residents of Houston, Dr. and Mr. Allen |
|
were married in the Bayou City in 1957; Mr. Allen currently serves |
|
as principal of Jesse Jackson Academy, and Dr. Allen, an |
|
educational consultant, has ably served the constituents of House |
|
District 131 since her election in 2004; they are both members of |
|
the retired teachers' association; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Allens count among their blessings a fine family |
|
with whom they treasure sharing the many special occasions of life; |
|
they take justifiable pride in their two very accomplished |
|
children, Dr. Patricia K. Allen, who serves as principal of |
|
MacGregor Elementary School, and Lawrence A. Allen, Jr., who serves |
|
on the State Board of Education and as an administrator for the |
|
Houston Independent School District; Dr. and Mr. Allen also delight |
|
in the company of their grandchildren, Patrice and Lawrence, who |
|
are students at Baylor University, and Ali, Alim, and Norman; and |
|
WHEREAS, Valued congregants of Mt. Hebron Baptist Church, |
|
Lawrence and Alma Allen have worshipped there for nearly 40 years; |
|
in their leisure time, Mr. Allen enjoys fishing and Dr. Allen finds |
|
great pleasure in gardening; and |
|
WHEREAS, This devoted couple's union of half a century is |
|
eloquent affirmation of the meaning of love and commitment, and we |
|
join their many friends and admirers in honoring them on this |
|
special day; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Alma A. Allen and Lawrence A. |
|
Allen, Sr., on the occasion of their 50th wedding anniversary and |
|
extend to them sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, be |
|
it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Dr. and Mr. Allen as an expression of high regard by |
|
the Texas House of Representatives. |
