R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, James M. Pappas, P.E., has been named the 2007 |
|
|
Houston Area Engineer of the Year by Houston engineering |
|
|
organizations for his myriad contributions to his profession and |
|
|
the greater community; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A graduate of The University of Texas at Austin, Mr. |
|
|
Pappas is employed with Devon Energy Corporation and serves as the |
|
|
company's global technology coordinator, in which capacity he is |
|
|
working to bring emerging technologies to bear on oil and gas |
|
|
exploration; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Serving his employer as a senior engineering advisor |
|
|
as well, he wears many hats and works closely with students |
|
|
recruited from UT-Austin as a mentor and has figured prominently in |
|
|
the development of a comprehensive training program for newly hired |
|
|
engineers; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Pappas also contributes to the engineering |
|
|
community through his work with many professional organizations; |
|
|
the technical director for production and operations for the |
|
|
Society of Petroleum Engineers International Gulf Coast Region, he |
|
|
shares his leadership on the board of the Texas Society of |
|
|
Professional Engineers and as chair of its Professional in Industry |
|
|
Practice Committee; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The career of James M. Pappas in the oil and gas |
|
|
industry is noteworthy for his gift for innovation and his |
|
|
dedication to the recruitment and training of those just starting |
|
|
their careers; his drive and his commitment have been previously |
|
|
recognized with other industry honors and his receipt of this |
|
|
prestigious achievement further underscores his record of service |
|
|
as an exemplary member of his profession and his community; now, |
|
|
therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate James M. Pappas, P.E., on being |
|
|
named the 2007 Houston Area Engineer of the Year by his professional |
|
|
peers and extend to him best wishes for continued success in all his |
|
|
endeavors; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Mr. Pappas as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
|
House of Representatives. |
