R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Sheena Monnin was crowned Miss Austin USA on March
  11, 2006, and she truly merits recognition for the year she has
  spent representing the capital of Texas as the pageant winner; and
         WHEREAS, This accomplished 21-year-old has devoted herself
  to community service and leadership, having performed volunteer
  work with the United Way, the Austin Children's Shelter, the Prom
  Shop Project, and Operation Christmas Child, to name but a few of
  the worthy causes she has supported; and
         WHEREAS, Currently a college student studying psychology,
  Ms. Monnin has devoted an extensive amount of time to teaching young
  girls about self-esteem and personal growth; she started the
  foundation Girls of Promise that is dedicated to this goal and has
  created an interactive program entitled Discover Your Destiny that
  focuses on the topic of character building; and
         WHEREAS, Ms. Monnin is also a certified teacher of children's
  etiquette and of business and international protocol, and she has
  taught these subjects in private schools in Florida and Texas; and
         WHEREAS, Exhibiting compassion, dedication, and high ideals,
  Ms. Monnin is committed to improving the local community, and
  through her many accomplishments and her service as Miss Austin USA
  for 2006, she has distinguished herself as a young woman of great
  promise; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Sheena Monnin for being named Miss
  Austin USA 2006 and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued
  success and happiness; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Monnin as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
