R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The family and friends of U.S. Army Private Clarence |
|
Spencer of Fort Worth have suffered an immeasurable loss with his |
|
death on February 4, 2007, at the age of 24; and |
|
WHEREAS, Killed in the performance of his duties in Iraq, |
|
Private Spencer was a member of the 1st Cavalry Division's 3rd |
|
Brigade Combat Team out of Fort Hood; and |
|
WHEREAS, A native Texan, he was born November 26, 1982, in |
|
Fort Worth and attended Dunbar High School, where he was active in |
|
the JROTC program and an all-district strong safety on the football |
|
team; and |
|
WHEREAS, Private Spencer joined the U.S. Marine Corps after |
|
his graduation, serving four years before enlisting in the Army so |
|
that he could be closer to his family; during his military tenure, |
|
he completed three tours of duty in Iraq and earned the Purple Heart |
|
for his courageous service; and |
|
WHEREAS, Private Spencer was serving his fourth tour at the |
|
time of his death, and despite the dangerous nature of his mission, |
|
he remained devoted to serving his country; and |
|
WHEREAS, Our state and nation are fortunate to have men and |
|
women whose love for their country inspires them to take up military |
|
service, yet the tragic death of this fine young man is a sobering |
|
reminder of the cost of war; Private Spencer embodied the highest |
|
ideals of the U.S. armed forces, and those who knew and loved him |
|
will forever carry him close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay special tribute to the life of U.S. Army |
|
Private Clarence Spencer and extend deepest sympathy to his family: |
|
to his wife, Shanta Spencer; to his daughter, Chania Spencer; to his |
|
mother, Juanita Cole; to his sister, Shaneika Bell; and to his other |
|
relatives and friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of U.S. Army |
|
Private Clarence Spencer. |
