R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Larry Patin has long been a notable resident of San
  Antonio who has given generously of his time and resources to help
  make a positive difference in the lives of his fellow citizens; and
         WHEREAS, Born and raised in the River City, Mr. Patin owned
  and operated Alamo Shaver and Appliance until 2000, when the
  business closed; his entrepreneurial spirit then led him to
  establish an online venture reselling small well-made appliances
  which he would repair; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Patin has made many important contributions to
  his community as a member of the Northwest Neighborhood Alliance
  and the Braun Station West Community Improvement Association;
  during his 11-plus years on the association's board, he served as
  president and vice president and oversaw a number of initiatives of
  benefit to the association and its members; and
         WHEREAS, In an effort to preserve the beauty and integrity of
  his neighborhood, Mr. Patin helped to establish San Antonio's
  bandit sign ordinance, which prohibits the unauthorized placement
  of signs along the street; a member of Prince of Peace Church, he
  has also volunteered with the San Antonio Police Department
  Cellular on Patrol program and was a founding member of that group's
  parent organization; and
         WHEREAS, In March 2005, Larry Patin was severely injured in
  an automobile accident while traveling to a community meeting, and
  although he has returned home after eight months in the hospital, he
  continues to require 24-hour care; to help defray the costs of
  medical care and equipment, his family and friends have established
  Larry's Fund to purchase the equipment necessary to ensure Mr.
  Patin's safety, comfort, and continued rehabilitation; and
         WHEREAS, Life's challenges so often come when least expected,
  yet with the help of his friends and fellow citizens, Larry Patin is
  attempting to meet this obstacle, and he is truly deserving of
  special recognition for his strength of character in the face of
  adversity and for his many years of important contributions to his
  community; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Larry Patin for his notable service in
  behalf of others and extend to all those associated with Larry's
  Fund best wishes for great success with this vital undertaking;  
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Patin as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
