R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Parker Square, a development that has contributed |
|
significantly to the economic vitality and sense of community in |
|
Flower Mound, has been selected by the Flower Mound Chamber of |
|
Commerce as its 2007 Business of the Year; and |
|
WHEREAS, Named for a noted Baptist preacher during the period |
|
of the Texas Republic, Daniel Parker, Parker Square was envisioned |
|
as a place to gather, socialize, shop, and access a variety of |
|
professional services; the project sits on 24 acres and is |
|
presently home to some 40 retail outlets, restaurants, and offices; |
|
these establishments occupy low-rise buildings that are designed in |
|
a pleasing, 1920s style and that border a large, beautifully |
|
landscaped town green; since opening its doors in 1999, the complex |
|
has continued to grow, with groundbreaking for two more buildings |
|
expected to take place before the end of 2007; and |
|
WHEREAS, The plan for Parker Square was conceived by Cole |
|
McDowell, an eighth-generation descendent of Daniel Parker, who has |
|
been developing commercial and residential property in Flower Mound |
|
in recent years; Mr. McDowell's goal was to create a mixed-use |
|
development that would also serve as a town center and that would |
|
reflect and enhance the small-town atmosphere of Flower Mound; and |
|
WHEREAS, A valued corporate citizen, Parker Square sponsors |
|
many nonprofit organizations, including Mothers Against Drunk |
|
Driving, the Flower Mound Humane Society, the Flower Mound Rotary |
|
Club, and Friends of the Family; in addition, Parker Square plays |
|
host to a wide variety of events, such as seasonal celebrations, |
|
music festivals, car shows, weddings, and fun runs; and |
|
WHEREAS, Fulfilling many needs and playing an active, |
|
constructive role in the civic life of Flower Mound, Parker Square |
|
has become an indispensable part of its community, and for its |
|
support of numerous local worthy causes it is indeed deserving of |
|
this outstanding honor; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby recognize Parker Square on the occasion of its |
|
designation as the 2007 Business of the Year by the Flower Mound |
|
Chamber of Commerce and pay tribute to the exemplary civic spirit of |
|
its management; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. McDowell as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
