R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Prince Complex, Incorporated, in Houston is
  recognizing five outstanding honorees at its 2007 Gala, "A Knockout
  Affair," on March 1, 2007; and
         WHEREAS, Since its inception in 1998, the nonprofit
  organization has offered athletic, recreational, and academic
  programs to thousands of disadvantaged youths in Houston, and this
  annual fund-raiser seeks to heighten awareness of this important
  facility and the services it provides in the community; and
         WHEREAS, Bernard Hopkins is one of the individuals being
  honored at the 2007 gala; the current light heavyweight champion of
  the world, Mr. Hopkins made his name as the premier middleweight
  fighter of his generation; nicknamed "The Executioner," this
  hall-of-famer first claimed the middleweight crown in 1995, and he
  went on to defend his title in 20 consecutive bouts; and
         WHEREAS, Raised in Philadephia, Mr. Hopkins has become a role
  model for legions of fans in his hometown and beyond; he supports
  and participates in numerous charitable endeavors, most notably the
  Bernard and Shirley Hopkins Make a Way Foundation, which funds
  programs promoting safe and healthy activities for children; and
         WHEREAS, The 2007 honorees have demonstrated an unwavering
  dedication to excellence in their respective fields of expertise
  while maintaining a steadfast commitment to helping others, and the
  receipt of this award brings well-deserved recognition to their
  many contributions; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Bernard Hopkins on being named an
  honoree of the Prince Complex, Incorporated, 2007 Gala and extend
  to him sincere best wishes for continued success in all his
  endeavors; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Hopkins as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
