R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Riva Kremer of Houston marked the special milestone |
|
of her 100th birthday on August 12, 2006, at a celebration held in |
|
her honor at the Holocaust Museum Houston; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born on August 12, 1906, Mrs. Kremer spent her early |
|
life in Grodno, Poland, where she ran a dry cleaning business with |
|
her husband; in the summer of 1941, Nazi forces invaded the town and |
|
transported Mr. and Mrs. Kremer and their two children to |
|
Treblinka, a notorious Nazi death camp; and |
|
WHEREAS, Surviving the atrocities of four camps, Mrs. Kremer |
|
and her daughter, Linda, were liberated by Allied troops on May 8, |
|
1945, and came to the United States in 1951; Mrs. Kremer lived in |
|
New York until 1965, when she moved to Houston to be with Linda and |
|
her husband, Morris Penn; and |
|
WHEREAS, Now residing in the Meyerland/South Post Oak area, |
|
Mrs. Kremer is the oldest Holocaust survivor in Houston, and she |
|
shares memories of the heartbreak and heroism with the local |
|
Holocaust Museum; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Kremer's century of life represents a survival |
|
of hope beyond suffering and loss, the awakening of dreams |
|
following unspeakable horror, and a prayer that tomorrow may bring |
|
a consciousness of morality and decency that enables all people to |
|
transcend prejudice and hatred; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor Riva Kremer on the occasion of her 100th |
|
birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes for the future; and, |
|
be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mrs. Kremer as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
