R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The certain knowledge of a life well lived may
  console the family and friends of Vera H. Carhart, who passed away
  on August 5, 2006, at the age of 77; and
         WHEREAS, A dedicated supporter of the Republican Party, Mrs.
  Carhart worked on a number of federal, state, and local campaigns,
  including those of John Tower, George H. W. Bush, Kay Bailey
  Hutchison, and John Culberson; former U.S. Representative Bill
  Archer also benefited from her service as campaign manager and
  longtime office volunteer; and
         WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan was active in the Spring Branch
  Republican Women's Club, Memorial West Republican Women's Club, and
  Village Republican Women's Club and further lent her time and
  talents to the Texas Federation of Republican Women, which she
  served as president; and
         WHEREAS, Vera Carhart was a loving mother and grandmother and
  was active in many civic and arts organizations; she is deeply
  missed, but the legacy of public spirit that she leaves behind will
  not soon be forgotten; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Vera H. Carhart and
  extend deepest sympathy to her family: to her son, John William
  Carhart and his wife, Carolyn; to her daughter, Melissa Carhart
  Lanier; to her grandchildren, Kimberly Ann Carhart, Laura Catherine
  Carhart, Mackenzie Elizabeth Carhart, Adam Everest Lanier, and
  Thomas Carhart Lanier; to her brother, William Hartlage, Jr.; and
  to her other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas House
  of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Vera H.
  Carhart.
