R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, February 18, 2007, marked a very special occasion in |
|
the life of Millie Johnson Washington of Houston, for on that date |
|
she celebrated the joyous occasion of her 80th birthday; and |
|
WHEREAS, A native Texan, Mrs. Washington is a graduate of |
|
Jack Yates Senior High School in Houston, and she holds both a |
|
bachelor's degree and a master's degree in education from Texas |
|
Southern University; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Washington distinguished herself as an |
|
educator with the Houston Independent School District throughout an |
|
outstanding career that spanned approximately 35 years; even in |
|
retirement she has continued to share her expertise with children |
|
as a dedicated volunteer; and |
|
WHEREAS, An active member of Jerusalem Missionary Baptist |
|
Church for more than six decades, Mrs. Washington has long served |
|
the congregation in numerous leadership positions, and her |
|
achievements include founding a group that assists children and |
|
senior citizens; and |
|
WHEREAS, She enjoyed a 52-year marriage with Dave McHenry |
|
Washington, Sr., until his passing, and together they raised six |
|
children; today, Mrs. Washington also enjoys the love and affection |
|
of several cherished grandchildren; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Washington may indeed reflect with joy on all |
|
she has accomplished in her life, and she is to be commended for her |
|
many years of commitment to the education of area young people; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Millie Johnson Washington on her |
|
80th birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued |
|
happiness; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mrs. Washington as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
