R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The National Society, Daughters of the American
  Revolution, founded in 1890, is a volunteer women's service
  organization dedicated to keeping America strong by promoting
  patriotism, preserving U.S. history, and supporting educational
  programs; and
         WHEREAS, Since its founding in Texas in 1895, the Texas
  Society, DAR has adhered to the goals of the national society and,
  through the work of its chapters and membership, has marked the
  graves of American Revolutionary War patriots buried in the state,
  marked historic sites in Texas, erected monuments pertaining to
  Texas history, and promoted historic preservation and the study of
  history; and
         WHEREAS, Although it is generally not recognized, many
  patriots of the American Revolution emigrated to Texas, usually
  with their families, settling eastern and southeastern regions
  still under Mexican rule; and
         WHEREAS, In 2006, the Texas Society, DAR formed a committee
  to prove, in accordance with the standards of the national society,
  the service of each of more than 60 American patriots who have been
  discovered to be buried in this state, and its board voted to erect
  an obelisk in memory of these patriots; and
         WHEREAS, In December 2006, the Texas State Cemetery Committee
  approved the construction of this monument at the recommended site
  of Cenotaph Hill; and
         WHEREAS, Members of the Texas Society, DAR work tirelessly to
  honor patriots, find and designate historical sites, and educate
  their fellow citizens about the history of the Lone Star State, and
  it is appropriate to take this opportunity to recognize them and
  their important work to document this state's connection to
  American Revolutionary War patriots; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby honor the Texas Society, Daughters of the
  American Revolution on its important historical research and public
  education achievements and commend its members for their efforts to
  have a monument to Revolutionary War patriots placed in the State
  Cemetery; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the Texas Society, DAR as an expression of high regard
  by the Texas House of Representatives.
