R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Words cannot express the sorrow felt at the loss of
  Lance Corporal Ryan Adam Miller of Pearland, who died in Iraq on
  September 14, 2006, at the age of 19; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Houston on October 9, 1986, Corporal Miller
  attended Pearland High School but completed his secondary education
  through instruction at home; a proud, third-generation Marine, he
  enlisted in the corps shortly after his 18th birthday and graduated
  from boot camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island on May
  13, 2005; seven months later he was promoted to the rank of lance
  corporal; and
         WHEREAS, This courageous young man served with the 3rd
  Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division, 3rd Marine
  Expeditionary Force; he deployed to Iraq in March 2006, and during
  his tour of duty there he earned the deep admiration and respect of
  his fellow Marines; Corporal Miller was mortally wounded while
  patrolling in Barwana, in Al Anbar province; and
         WHEREAS, Raised in a loving family, Ryan Miller grew to be a
  young man toward whom people were naturally drawn, attracted by his
  unfailing kindness and warmth and his ready sense of humor; an
  ardent fan of the Houston Astros, he played baseball with the Dad's
  Club when he was a boy; and
         WHEREAS, Corporal Miller was a man of strong faith and a
  member of Fellowship Bible Church; he planned, after leaving the
  military, to join the Houston Police Department, where both his
  parents had built distinguished careers; and
         WHEREAS, For his selfless efforts and immeasurable
  sacrifice, Americans owe to Ryan Miller a debt that the passage of
  time can never diminish, and those who loved him will forever carry
  him close in their hearts; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Lance Corporal Ryan
  Adam Miller and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his
  family: to his parents, Frank Miller and Jeannine Maughmer-Miller;
  to his sister, Meghan Miller; to his brother, Brandon Miller, and
  his wife, Leasha; to his grandmother, Betty Maughmer; to his aunts
  and uncles, Lyn Swan, Joan and Raymond Goodnight, Michelle and
  Dexter McKey, Denise Daniels, and Cheryl and Lynn Maughmer; and to
  his many other relatives and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Lance
  Corporal Ryan Adam Miller.
