R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Columbia High School Lady Necks captured the
  2006 3A state softball championship, making history by bringing
  home the first-ever state title for their school; and
         WHEREAS, Under the guidance of head coach Shelly Murphy, the
  Lady Necks came to epitomize teamwork and sportsmanship as they
  finished their season with a spectacular 37-1 record, landed
  members on the state all-tournament team, captured the top
  individual honor of Tournament MVP, and earned the coveted state
  championship trophy; and
         WHEREAS, This outstanding team won 37 straight games as they
  dominated preseason and district contests; the Lady Necks defeated
  Barbers Hill 4-0 in the state semifinals and took the championship
  with a 5-2 win over Van in a game fans will always remember; and
         WHEREAS, This team, which had only two senior players, set a
  goal early in the season to return to Austin and win the state
  championship, and the players never faltered in their mission; and
         WHEREAS, Achieving such a lofty ambition required each of the
  team's talented athletes to perform at the top of her game, and this
  triumph is an apt reflection of the team's competitive spirit and
  the members' heart and desire to be champions, and it is an
  appropriate culmination of many hours of hard work and training;
  and
         WHEREAS, These young champions have distinguished themselves
  as formidable competitors, and in doing so they have brought great
  pride and recognition to the Columbia-Brazoria Independent School
  District, to their communities and the fans who always believed in
  them, and to all the people of Brazoria County; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the team and coach of Columbia High
  School and extend to them best wishes for the future; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
