R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A superior athlete who established herself as one of
  the country's finest collegiate divers, Kelly Jenkins Madden has
  been inducted into The University of Texas Women's Athletics Hall
  of Honor; and
         WHEREAS, A Houston native, she began demonstrating her
  impressive abilities as a diver as a young girl; she was the
  national champion in her age group 11 times, competed on the United
  States Diving Team for six years, and was ranked as the number one
  diver in the world in her age bracket each year between 1981 and
  1988; during her career at Memorial High School, she never lost a
  meet and became the first person to be crowned all-state diving
  champion for four consecutive years, garnering the Texas Female
  Athlete of the Year award as a senior; and
         WHEREAS, This talented and hard-working athlete joined the
  women's swimming and diving team at The University of Texas at
  Austin in 1987 and contributed greatly to the outstanding success
  that the Longhorns enjoyed in that sport in the late 1980s and early
  1990s; the team captured the NCAA championship in three of the four
  years that Ms. Jenkins was a member--1988, 1990, and 1991; although
  Texas came in second in the team competition at the championship
  meet in 1989, Ms. Jenkins was named the NCAA three-meter
  springboard diving champion that year and became the first Longhorn
  to win an individual diving title; in the course of her competitive
  career at the university, she received nine All-American honors and
  a place on the Southwest Conference's All-Decade Team; and
         WHEREAS, Successful in the classroom as well as on the diving
  board, she graduated second in her high school class of nearly 600
  students and was a two-time Academic All-American at The University
  of Texas; graduating with a 3.85 grade-point average in her
  architectural engineering major, Ms. Jenkins went on to enjoy a
  successful tenure as a structural engineer; she married in 1993 and
  is the mother of four children; and
         WHEREAS, Combining outstanding athletic achievement with
  scholarly excellence, Kelly Jenkins Madden challenged herself to
  fulfill her highest potential as a gifted student athlete, and her
  exemplary accomplishments as a Longhorn truly make her worthy of a
  place among the university's finest sports figures; now, therefore,
  be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Kelly Jenkins Madden for her
  induction into The University of Texas Women's Athletics Hall of
  Honor and extend to her best wishes for happiness and success in all
  her endeavors; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Ms. Madden as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
