R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Garden City High School girls' basketball team
  is participating in the Class A Division II Region II final state
  tournament on Friday, March 2; and
         WHEREAS, The Lady Bearkats won the Region II semifinals on
  February 23, to earn the right to play for the state championship in
  Austin; and
         WHEREAS, Head Coach Brent Kirkland has schooled his players
  in the finer points of basketball while also emphasizing the
  virtues of good sportsmanship and academic excellence; he was ably
  supported in these efforts by assistant coaches Jimmy Fine; and
         WHEREAS, Dedication to excellence both individually and as a
  team has been a hallmark of the Bearkats, whose team members include
  Julie Hirt, K'Lann Nichues, Marrisa Schwartz, Whitney Kellermeier,
  Amy Multer, Erin Hirt, Lauren Plageus, Victoria Ortiz, Brittney
  Chudej, Macy Schwartz, Lyza Lopez, Morgan Schwartz, Halie Schaefer,
  Paige Niehues; and
         WHEREAS, These talented young women, as well as their coaches
  and staff, are a tremendous source of pride for the students and
  faculty of Garden City High and their many supporters in the
  community, and this most recent accomplishment has rightfully
  earned them special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it
         WHEREAS, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate the Garden City High School Lady
  Bearkats on participating in the Class A Division II Region II final
  state basketball tournament and extend to them sincere best wishes
  for continued success and happiness in the years to come; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the team and coaching staff as an expression of high
  regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
