R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Prince Complex youth and senior organization has
  broken ground for a new $1.2 million community center to better
  serve the citizens of Houston's Fifth Ward; and
         WHEREAS, Founded in 1998 by Rap-a-Lot Records CEO James
  Prince and run by Executive Director Reverend Herb Shook, Prince
  Complex offers athletics, recreation, and academic enrichment
  programs for both young people and seniors in the community;
  currently 6,000 youths and seniors are participating; and
         WHEREAS, The boxing program provides training and supervised
  competitions for young men from 7 to 17 years old; a fully equipped
  basketball gym is open after school, five days a week; a senior
  fitness and walking club meets twice a week, with a continental
  breakfast and a speaker program; and
         WHEREAS, Prince Complex's academic enrichment program
  includes an after-school program that provides homework assistance
  and training in study skills for students; and
         WHEREAS, The 11,000-square-foot new addition will feature a
  library, classrooms, a food pantry, and a state-of-the-art computer
  lab with 30 computers donated by the Houston Area Urban League;
  additionally, a medical clinic will provide immunizations and flu
  shots, and HIV awareness and prevention will be promoted; and
         WHEREAS, All those associated with the Prince Complex are
  providing an invaluable service to their community through their
  education, fitness, and computer literacy programs, and the
  impressive center addition will help bring even more opportunities
  to the Fifth Ward; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate James Prince, the Reverend Herb
  Shook, and the staff of the Prince Complex on breaking ground for
  the new addition to their community center and extend best wishes to
  them for their continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the staff of the Prince Complex as an expression of
  high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
