R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Teatro Vivo repertory company is dedicated to |
|
bringing high-quality bilingual theater productions to the city of |
|
Austin, and the efforts of its founders and members have had a |
|
lasting impact on the Capitol City; and |
|
WHEREAS, Founded in January 2000, Teatro Vivo traces its |
|
roots back to the 1970s, when husband-and-wife founders Rupert |
|
Reyes and Jo Ann Carreon-Reyes were students at The University of |
|
Texas at Austin; and |
|
WHEREAS, The couple's concept of a bilingual theater company |
|
highlighting Latino culture and heritage has gone through numerous |
|
incarnations since the two established Teatro Carnales en Espiritu |
|
on the UT campus in 1974; and |
|
WHEREAS, In the past seven years, Teatro Vivo has produced |
|
eight full-length bilingual plays and three three-week acting |
|
workshops in Austin; in addition, the company has collaborated on |
|
five productions with other local theater groups, including Puerto |
|
Rican Folkloric Dance, Different Stages, LupeArte, ALLGO, and Rude |
|
Mechanicals; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through the visionary leadership of Rupert Reyes and |
|
Jo Ann Carreon-Reyes, Teatro Vivo has embraced and promoted the |
|
cultural diversity of the city of Austin, and the efforts of this |
|
talented pair are contributing significantly to the quality of life |
|
in Central Texas; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby honor Rupert Reyes and Jo Ann Carreon-Reyes and |
|
the many individuals associated with Teatro Vivo for their hard |
|
work and notable achievements in the theater; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Teatro Vivo as an expression of high regard by the |
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
