R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The year 2007 marks the 30th anniversary of
  Assistance League® Austin, and it is a pleasure to recognize this
  outstanding organization on three decades of meaningful service to
  its community; and
         WHEREAS, Chartered in 1977 as the 60th chapter of the
  National Assistance League™, Assistance League of Austin is devoted
  to improving the quality of life of children and adults in schools,
  hospitals, and senior citizen facilities by addressing their basic
  needs; and
         WHEREAS, In fulfilling their mission, the members of this
  notable organization, now numbering more than 375 volunteers, have
  logged an estimated 600,000 hours of community service; their
  efforts have resulted in a host of beneficial projects, including a
  thrift house, Operation School Bell, which has provided clothing
  for more than 38,000 children, and the Children's Hospital Toy
  Cart, which has served nearly 200,000 children; in addition,
  Assistance League of Austin has implemented a busing program for
  seniors, distributed scholarships along with Austin Community
  College, created the Assault Survivor Kit project for victims of
  assault and rape, and supplied over 100 teenagers leaving foster
  care with items needed for independent living; and
         WHEREAS, This noteworthy group has frequently been
  recognized for its important work, and some of its recent accolades
  include the 2006 Community Advocate Award from the Greater Austin
  Chamber of Commerce and the designation of Outstanding
  Philanthropic Organization of 2007 by the Association of
  Fundraising Professionals; and
         WHEREAS, For 30 years, the members of Assistance League of
  Austin have exemplified the highest ideals of community service,
  and in so doing they have succeeded in making their community a
  better place in which to live, work, and raise a family; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Assistance League of Austin on its
  30th anniversary and commend the members of the organization for
  their contributions to the Austin community; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Assistance League of Austin as an expression of high
  regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
