R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Award-winning journalist Jose L. Castillo has |
|
|
generously donated a collection of his unpublished photographs to |
|
|
the University of North Texas Archives; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The Jose L. Castillo Photograph Collection includes |
|
|
nearly 3,000 photos taken between July 2004 and July 2006; subjects |
|
|
include political events, leaders in the Latino community, |
|
|
festivals, Latino soccer leagues, and the North Texas wildfires of |
|
|
2006; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A native of Lima, Peru, Mr. Castillo has served as |
|
|
the Dallas-Fort Worth correspondent for the EFE News Service, the |
|
|
world's largest Spanish-language news agency, since 2004; he has |
|
|
also worked as a freelance reporter for El Diario La Estrella, the |
|
|
Fort Worth Star-Telegram's Spanish-language daily newspaper, Latin |
|
|
Trade Magazine, HOY newspapers, and La Republica; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, UNT will also make Mr. Castillo's photos available |
|
|
online through its Portal to Texas History, so that they may be seen |
|
|
by students throughout the Lone Star State, the nation, and the |
|
|
world; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Castillo's collection will undoubtedly benefit |
|
|
generations to come by helping to ensure that an important part of |
|
|
our nation's history will not be lost; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby commend Jose L. Castillo for his donation to the |
|
|
University of North Texas Archives and honor him for the enduring |
|
|
gift he has shared with his fellow citizens; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Mr. Castillo as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
