R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The passing of Jim S. Sale of Dallas on February 2,
  2007, has brought a great loss to his family and many friends; and
         WHEREAS, Born in Dallas on September 28, 1932, Jim Sale
  enjoyed a successful career as a stockbroker and served his fellow
  citizens as an active and effective community leader; and
         WHEREAS, A proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force, Mr. Sale
  enlisted in the Air National Guard while still a student at North
  Dallas High School; he entered boot camp shortly after his
  graduation and served in Japan and Korea during the Korean War;
  after completing his military service, he attended Southern
  Methodist University on the G.I. Bill; and
         WHEREAS, Following work in the insurance business, he found
  his true calling as a stockbroker in the 1960s and became an
  executive vice president at Weber, Hall, Sale and Associates; after
  20 years with the firm, he joined the brokerage house that became
  Deutsche Bank Alex. Brown; and
         WHEREAS, Active in the Democratic Party, he served as
  chairman of the small-business council for the party's national
  committee; he also served on numerous other boards, including the
  Veterans' Land Board of Texas, the Texas Criminal Justice Board,
  the National Space Institute, Texas A&M University's College of
  Science, and the Texas Industrial Commission; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Sale was a devoted father and a man of strong
  faith; he grew up as a member of Oak Lawn United Methodist Church
  and attended Highland Park United Methodist Church for more than 40
  years; a recovering alcoholic with more than 20 years of sobriety,
  he was humbled by his longtime association with Alcoholics
  Anonymous and felt privileged to help literally hundreds of people
  in their struggle with alcoholism; and
         WHEREAS, Admired for his generosity of spirit, his
  patriotism, and his love for humankind, Jim Sale brought happiness
  and hope to many people during his life, and although he will be
  missed by those who were privileged to know and love him, his spirit
  will live on in their hearts; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Jim S. Sale and extend
  deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his children,
  James Swift Sale, Jeffrey Leonard Sale, Leslie Allison Sale, John
  Smith Sale, and Jess Garrison Sale; to his stepdaughters, Marjorie
  Querbes Briley, Elizabeth Querbes, and Mary Elizabeth Bond; and to
  his other relatives and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jim S.
  Sale.
