R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, In June 2007, Tom Davenport is retiring as
  superintendent of the Lake Dallas Independent School District,
  drawing to a close an outstanding career in public education that
  has spanned nearly four decades; and
         WHEREAS, A former school teacher, Mr. Davenport has served in
  his current role for 18 years, during which time the district has
  more than doubled in size; under his able leadership, district
  leaders have worked hard to accommodate the growth, developing a
  building program that has been in effect since 1995; and
         WHEREAS, This esteemed administrator has shared his time and
  talents with numerous professional organizations, including the
  National Association of Federally Impacted Schools, for which he
  served as president of the federal properties section, the Texas
  Association of Federally Impacted Schools, for which he serves as
  treasurer, and the Texas Association of School Administrators; in
  addition, he has served as chair of the Education Service Center
  Region XI TASA study group, as senatorial district representative
  for the Texas Association of Mid-Size Schools, and as a member of
  the Commissioner of Education Advisory Committee; and
         WHEREAS, Devoted to his community, Mr. Davenport is an active
  member of the Lake Cities Lions Club and the Lake Cities Chamber of
  Commerce, for which he has served as vice president for numerous
  years; he was named Citizen of the Year by the chamber of commerce
  in 2005; and
         WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Davenport enjoys the love
  and support of his wife, Carolyn, his two daughters, Jill and Ruth,
  and his four grandchildren, Nicholas, Lauryn, Daven, and Jared, and
  he is a valued congregant of Lake Shore Baptist Church; and
         WHEREAS, The people of Lake Dallas have gained immeasurably
  from Mr. Davenport's astute judgment, deep experience, and
  passionate dedication to the schoolchildren of that city, and it is
  indeed fitting that he be recognized for his exceptional service to
  the cause of education throughout the Lone Star State; now,
  therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Tom Davenport on his service as
  superintendent of the Lake Dallas Independent School District and
  extend to him best wishes for an enjoyable retirement; and, be it
  further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Davenport as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
