R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Members of the Texas Society Colonial Dames XVII
  Century are convening in Corpus Christi on March 8-10, 2007, for
  their 69th annual conference; and
         WHEREAS, State President Sandra Cook Bassett has chosen "Love
  of Learning" as the theme for her administration, and the
  organization is implementing that theme through college
  scholarships and book donations; some 1,400 Texas women belong to
  the 41 state chapters of the National Society Colonial Dames XVII
  Century, a nonprofit patriotic organization whose members trace
  their ancestry to colonial America before 1701; the society's
  primary objectives include preserving records and historic sites,
  promoting interest in colonial heritage, providing scholarships,
  and maintaining a public library in Washington, D.C., that
  specializes in 17th-century colonial history; and
         WHEREAS, State conference attendees will have the
  opportunity to participate in a variety of activities hosted by
  chapters located in Corpus Christi, Kingsville, Victoria, and the
  Rio Grande Valley; tours of Heritage Park and the Corpus Christi
  Museum of Science and History will be among the event highlights,
  along with a breakfast at which more than 100 large-print books and
  books on tape will be donated to the new library of the South Texas
  Lighthouse for the Blind; moreover, Dr. Robert Wooster, professor
  of history at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, will lecture on
  the topic of "Colonial Dreams of Corpus Christi"; and
         WHEREAS, The Texas Society Colonial Dames XVII Century is
  dedicated to preserving colonial heritage for the benefit of
  current and future generations, and its 2007 conference provides a
  fitting opportunity to commend its members for their noteworthy
  efforts; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby recognize all those affiliated with the 69th
  annual conference of the Texas Society Colonial Dames XVII Century
  and extend to them best wishes for a rewarding and enjoyable event;  
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the organization as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
