R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the sorrow felt at |
|
the death of U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Omar D. Flores of Mission, who |
|
lost his life while serving his country in Iraq on July 8, 2006, at |
|
the age of 27; and |
|
WHEREAS, A 10-year army veteran, Staff Sergeant Flores was |
|
assigned to the 54th Engineer Battalion, 130th Engineer Brigade; he |
|
followed in the footsteps of his older brother, joining the |
|
military after his graduation from La Joya High School; and |
|
WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Flores was studying at the University |
|
of Maryland before his deployment, and he hoped to one day become a |
|
JROTC instructor; he enjoyed competing, and his athletic skills led |
|
him to a number of volleyball championships, while his dedication |
|
to his profession twice earned him the title of NCO of the Year; and |
|
WHEREAS, Our state and nation are fortunate to have men and |
|
women whose love for their country inspires them to take up military |
|
service, yet the tragic death of this exemplary soldier is a |
|
sobering reminder of the cost of war; Staff Sergeant Flores |
|
embodied the highest ideals of the U.S. armed forces, and those who |
|
knew and loved him will forever carry him close in their hearts; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Army Staff |
|
Sergeant Omar D. Flores and extend deepest sympathy to all those who |
|
mourn his passing; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of U.S. Army |
|
Staff Sergeant Omar D. Flores. |
