R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Words cannot adequately express the sorrow felt at
  the death of U.S. Army Staff Sergeant Omar D. Flores of Mission, who
  lost his life while serving his country in Iraq on July 8, 2006, at
  the age of 27; and
         WHEREAS, A 10-year army veteran, Staff Sergeant Flores was
  assigned to the 54th Engineer Battalion, 130th Engineer Brigade; he
  followed in the footsteps of his older brother, joining the
  military after his graduation from La Joya High School; and
         WHEREAS, Staff Sergeant Flores was studying at the University
  of Maryland before his deployment, and he hoped to one day become a
  JROTC instructor; he enjoyed competing, and his athletic skills led
  him to a number of volleyball championships, while his dedication
  to his profession twice earned him the title of NCO of the Year; and
         WHEREAS, Our state and nation are fortunate to have men and
  women whose love for their country inspires them to take up military
  service, yet the tragic death of this exemplary soldier is a
  sobering reminder of the cost of war; Staff Sergeant Flores
  embodied the highest ideals of the U.S. armed forces, and those who
  knew and loved him will forever carry him close in their hearts;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Army Staff
  Sergeant Omar D. Flores and extend deepest sympathy to all those who
  mourn his passing; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of U.S. Army
  Staff Sergeant Omar D. Flores.
