R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The tragedy of a young life cut short by disease is a
  sobering reminder of both the fragility and the preciousness of our
  time on this earth, and it is with deep sorrow that we join the
  family and many friends of Samuel J. West of Arlington in mourning
  his passing on January 15, 2007, at the age of 16; and
         WHEREAS, Born on August 15, 1990, Sam West fought a long and
  difficult battle with leukemia, confronting the disease with
  courage and setting a positive example that comforted others and
  benefited friends many years his senior; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. West was of great assistance to the Kiwanis Club
  of Arlington, and he was also an active member of the Arlington High
  School Key Club; thoughtful and generous, he devoted many hours as a
  volunteer on Pancake Day, waiting tables, washing dishes, and
  contributing to the overall success of that event; and
         WHEREAS, The loved ones of Sam West were lucky indeed to have
  known him, and they will forever carry memories of him close in
  their hearts; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Samuel J. West and
  extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his father
  and stepmother, Steve West and Valeri Lee; to his mother and
  stepfather, Michelle and Ray Gutierrez; to his sisters, Holly and
  Marina Gutierrez; to his loving grandparents, Samuel and Barbara
  West and Sandra Purdy and Lou Schwartz; and to his other relatives
  and friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Samuel J.
  West.
