R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A gift of a lifetime is celebrated in the official
  unveiling, by South Texas Health System, of the Rio Grande Valley's
  first transplant center on March 8, 2007; and
         WHEREAS, This center fills a great need and introduces a
  legacy of hope and awareness for the nearly 20 million Americans
  suffering from Chronic Kidney Disease and the additional 20 million
  whom are at risk for this potentially fatal condition, often called
  a "silentkiller since so many people are not aware they have it;
  and
         WHEREAS, Healthcare professionals, patient groups,
  caregivers and local organizations will convene at the South Texas
  Transplant Center at McAllen Medical Center to commemorate this
  monumental occasion; and
         WHEREAS, In conjunction with "World Kidney Day," observed
  during "National Kidney Month" in March, the new center represents
  the effort to direct attention to the vital organs and offer
  education about the risks of Chronic Kidney Disease.
         WHEREAS, The South Texas Health System is recognized for its
  reputation of excellence in providing quality healthcare to the Rio
  Grande Valley; and
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th
  Legislature hereby recognize March 8, 2007, as "World Kidney Day" 
  at the State Capitol and extend to the community of McAllen sincere
  best wishes for efforts in opening the first transplant center in
  South Texas.
