R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The conservation, wise use, and proper management of |
|
soil and water resources are vital to the well-being of Texas |
|
residents; and |
|
WHEREAS, Soil and water conservation districts have promoted |
|
locally led, voluntary conservation efforts for more than 60 years, |
|
providing a practical and democratic organization through which |
|
landowners may take the initiative to properly use and protect our |
|
precious resources; and |
|
WHEREAS, Today, there are 217 conservation districts in |
|
Texas, each governed by a board of landowners, and this grassroots |
|
network represents more than 1,000 agricultural producers |
|
committed to conservation in the Lone Star State; and |
|
WHEREAS, Districts work with state and federal officials to |
|
ensure support for conservation programs, offering a critical link |
|
between landowners and government agencies; moreover, districts |
|
join more than 100,000 producers in Texas annually to implement |
|
conservation practices and programs on private lands; and |
|
WHEREAS, By promoting the value of environmental |
|
conservation and the need for personal responsibility at the local |
|
level, the soil and water conservation districts have had a |
|
positive and lasting impact throughout our state; now, therefore, |
|
be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby recognize March 8, 2007, as Soil and Water |
|
Conservation District Day and commend the men and women who |
|
dedicate themselves to safeguarding our natural resources. |
