R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The state of Texas has lost a deeply respected
  artist and professor with the passing of Robert Charles Hext on
  February 11, 2007, at the age of 58; and
         WHEREAS, Born and raised in Canada, Bob Hext came to Texas to
  attend Stephen F. Austin State University, earning his B.S., M.A.,
  and M.F.A. degrees there; he was hired as an instructor at Sul Ross
  State University in 1974 and rose through the faculty ranks to
  become chair of the art department in 1989; and
         WHEREAS, Listed in Who's Who Among America's Teachers, this
  dedicated professor believed in exploring the world beyond the four
  walls of a classroom and, to that end, led his students on art tours
  through West Texas and Europe; moreover, he was an international
  expert in the field of Paleolithic cave art in Northern Spain and
  fought to preserve regional rock art for future generations; and
         WHEREAS, A gifted sculptor, Mr. Hext worked primarily with
  wood, but he was also known for the metal "cowboy" sculptures that
  grace various locations throughout Alpine, including the front of
  the city's chamber of commerce office; and
         WHEREAS, Bob Hext was a man of tremendous talent who
  distinguished himself as an artist, an international scholar, and
  an innovative professor at Sul Ross, and his remarkable life is
  indeed worthy of praise; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Robert Charles Hext
  and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his
  wife, Kristi Hext; to his daughters, Ashley Baker and her husband,
  Will, and Andrea Rudolph and her husband, Mike; to his
  grandchildren, Berkley and Fisher Baker; to his brother, Phil Love;
  and to all who mourn the passing of this esteemed artist and
  educator; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Robert
  Charles Hext.
