R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Memories of a life filled with joyful times and |
|
meaningful accomplishments may comfort the family and friends of |
|
Mabel Meshach White of Dallas, who passed away on February 24, 2007; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, A native of the Lone Star State, Mrs. White was born |
|
on September 1, 1914, in Smithville; in 1936, she married William |
|
White, and together they established a successful real estate |
|
business; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. White was a vital and valued member of her |
|
community, serving as president of the board of directors for |
|
Holmes Sweet, Inc., second vice president of the board of directors |
|
for the Dallas Civic Garden Center, and board member of the African |
|
American Museum; the first African American chairwoman of the board |
|
of directors for the American Cancer Society, she further shared |
|
her time with the YWCA, National Council of Negro Women, Inc., |
|
Church Women United, and Zeta Amicae; and |
|
WHEREAS, Also a member of the Dallas Black Chamber of |
|
Commerce and Dallas Chamber of Commerce, she participated in the |
|
National Association of Real Estate Brokers and the National |
|
Association of Business and Professional Women's Clubs, Inc.; and |
|
WHEREAS, For more than six decades, Mrs. White attended Good |
|
Street Baptist Church, and she served her congregation as president |
|
of the missionary society, vice president of the Good Street |
|
Baptist Church Federal Credit Union, and board member of the Good |
|
Haven Apartment Complex; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. White was awarded a host of accolades for her |
|
contributions to her community; named Woman of the Year by Zeta Phi |
|
Beta Sorority, Inc., she also earned the Christian Service Award, |
|
Sojourner Truth Award, and Trailblazer, Ombudswoman, and Charter |
|
Member Awards from the South Dallas Business and Professional |
|
Women's Club, Inc.; and |
|
WHEREAS, Those fortunate enough to have known Mabel White |
|
will remember a dynamic woman whose faith and dedication to others |
|
made a positive difference in the lives of countless individuals; |
|
now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Mabel Meshach White |
|
and extend deepest sympathy to all those who mourn the passing of |
|
this beloved woman; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Mabel |
|
Meshach White. |
