R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Professional social workers are highly trained and
  experienced individuals who take a holistic approach in caring for
  individuals, families, and communities; and
         WHEREAS, In particular, school social workers are dedicated
  to helping schools fulfill their role as a setting for teaching,
  learning, and developing young people, and they support the goal of
  school districts to enhance student performance; they consult with
  teachers and administrators and frequently participate on teams
  within the school; and
         WHEREAS, These diligent professionals also provide direct
  services to both students and their families, including casework,
  group work, classroom presentations, and crisis intervention and
  consultation, and they make referrals to community agencies; school
  social workers encourage parents to become active partners in their
  child's academic success, and they help them develop the tools to
  become positive role models; indeed, school social workers are a
  key factor in the effective implementation of the parental
  involvement provisions under the No Child Left Behind Act; and
         WHEREAS, Linking schools, homes, and communities, school
  social workers contribute vitally to the growth and success of
  countless young Texans, and their tireless efforts are most
  deserving of our deepest respect and gratitude; now, therefore, be
  it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby recognize March 2007 as Professional Social Work
  Month and honor social work practitioners across the state for
  their steadfast commitment to helping others.
