R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Dr. Jon N. Moline is retiring as president of Texas
  Lutheran University on May 31, 2007, concluding a noteworthy
  13-year tenure that has seen many important and impressive changes
  at the institution; and
         WHEREAS, A Fort Worth native, Dr. Moline was named university
  president on August 1, 1994, and under his leadership the former
  Texas Lutheran College has experienced unprecedented growth,
  including a 53 percent increase in enrollment and a 200 percent
  increase in the school's endowment, while also successfully
  transitioning from college to university status; and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Moline has overseen the construction of several
  major facilities and the renovation of many other campus buildings;
  other initiatives include the installation of a campus-wide
  computer network, the automation of the university's library, the
  reinstatement of intercollegiate football, and the addition of two
  women's intercollegiate sports; and
         WHEREAS, A graduate of Austin College, Dr. Moline earned a
  Ph.D. in philosophy from Duke University in 1964 and holds an
  honorary doctor of humane letters degree, which he received from
  Austin College in 1995; from 1987 to 1994, he was vice president and
  dean of the college at St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota;
  and
         WHEREAS, Dr. Moline's academic career includes more than 20
  years on the faculty at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where
  he rose to become a full professor of philosophy and chair of the
  department of philosophy; he also served as an associate member of
  the department of classics, professor of environmental studies, and
  chair of the environmental studies program, and he was elected to
  the executive committee of the faculty senate; and
         WHEREAS, Active in higher education's national scene, Dr.
  Moline has served on the National Board of the Fund for the
  Improvement of Postsecondary Education and the National Council on
  the Humanities; he currently serves on the board of trustees of the
  Southwest Research Institute and the board of directors of the
  Council of Independent Colleges; and
         WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Dr. Moline has benefited from
  the love and support of his wife, Sandra, and it is fitting that
  this couple be honored with the dedication of the Jon and Sandra
  Moline Center for Servant Leadership; the center, which was
  established by Dr. Moline in 2005, helps connect the university's
  students with an array of service learning opportunities in an
  effort to promote personal and professional growth and an
  understanding of the importance of providing leadership through
  service to others; and
         WHEREAS, Jon Moline has made a profound and undeniable
  difference during his 13 years as president of Texas Lutheran
  University, and the occasion of his retirement offers a fitting
  opportunity to recognize him; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby honor Dr. Jon N. Moline on his retirement as
  president of Texas Lutheran University and commend him for his
  myriad contributions to the success and growth of the university;
  and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Dr. Moline as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
