H.R. No. 785

R E S O L U T I O N

WHEREAS, Grant Allen, an esteemed resident of Grand Saline and a senior at Grand Saline High School, has achieved national recognition for exemplary volunteer service with his receipt of a 2007 Prudential Spirit of Community Award; and

WHEREAS, This prestigious accolade, presented by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals, honors young volunteers across America who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to serving their communities; and

WHEREAS, Mr. Allen earned this award by giving generously of his time and energy in soundproofing the three band hall practice rooms at his school; he initiated the project on his own, collected monetary donations and supplies for the project, and recruited volunteers from his church, Boy Scout troop, band, and community, completing the project over the course of three weekends; and

WHEREAS, The success of the Lone Star State, the strength of our communities, and the overall vitality of American society depend, in great measure, on the civic engagement of young people like Grant Allen, who use their considerable talents and skills to serve others; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Grant Allen on his receipt of a Prudential Spirit of Community Award and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success in all his endeavors; and, be it further

RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Allen as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
