R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, Carrell Grigsby of Austin has been named the 2006 |
|
|
Photographer of the Year by the Professional Photographers Guild of |
|
|
Austin in recognition of her artistic vision, technical expertise, |
|
|
and continued dedication to the PPGA; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, The second time in three years that Ms. Grigsby has |
|
|
received the award, this honor is just one of many that she has |
|
|
received for her photographs; while much of her work depicts |
|
|
neighbors and pets from her west Austin neighborhood, she also |
|
|
specializes in portrait, event, landscape, and wildlife |
|
|
photography; recently one of her prints, Getting Her Balance, which |
|
|
captured young ballerinas in performance, was exhibited in San |
|
|
Antonio as part of the loan collection of the 115th International |
|
|
Exhibition of Professional Photography; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Ms. Grigsby was born in Richardson and developed an |
|
|
interest in art and photography as a young girl; she attended The |
|
|
University of Texas at Austin, where she studied with renowned |
|
|
photographer Russell Lee; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, For 25 years, Ms. Grigsby taught at the Texas School |
|
|
for the Blind and Visually Impaired; while at the school, she |
|
|
founded the "Vision Quest" program, an innovative project that |
|
|
offered students photography instruction and helped improve their |
|
|
vision; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, This native Texan has built a solid reputation for |
|
|
professional excellence and commitment to quality, and this most |
|
|
recent honor recognizes her many contributions to the Austin |
|
|
community; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Carrell Grigsby on being named the |
|
|
2006 Photographer of the Year by the Professional Photographers |
|
|
Guild of Austin and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued |
|
|
success; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for Ms. Grigsby as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
