R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Ronald J. Barker of Houston has been elected
  president of the Piney Woods Chapter of the Texas Society of the
  Sons of the American Revolution; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Barker is a native of San Francisco who served
  this nation as a fighter pilot in the United States Navy from 1968
  to 1972, during which time he flew F-4 Phantoms off the USS
  Forrestal; he has an MBA from Santa Clara University, and he and his
  wife, Conni, have two children and three grandchildren; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Barker is a descendant of Daniel Davis, a
  rifleman who served in the Virginia militia under General Daniel
  Morgan during the American Revolution; in 1999 Mr. Barker joined
  the Sons of the American Revolution, and he became a Texan himself
  when Hewlett-Packard transferred him to Houston in 2003; as an
  active member of the Piney Woods Chapter of the organization's
  Texas Society, he is currently the state chairman of the JROTC/ROTC
  awards committee; and
         WHEREAS, The Sons of the American Revolution was founded on
  July 4, 1876, in San Francisco, as a fraternal organization for men
  who are lineal descendents of men and women who fought for America's
  liberty in the revolution; today, the national organization boasts
  500 chapters worldwide and has 26,000 members; the Texas Society is
  the largest state society with 47 active chapters and more than
  2,300 members; and
         WHEREAS, The Piney Woods Chapter of the TXSSAR was chartered
  on February 3, 1994, with 15 original members; now drawing 75
  members from the Houston metropolitan area, the chapter sponsors 13
  awards in local high schools honoring the Junior ROTC; it also
  sponsors the Eagle Scout Award program, the Knight Historical Essay
  Contest, the James Looney Elementary School Poster Contest, the
  Fire Safety Commendation Medal, and the Law Enforcement Medal;
  moreover, chapter members field a Revolutionary War Color Guard for
  parades, civic ceremonies, and school events in the Houston area;
  and
         WHEREAS, With his swearing in on March 13, 2007, Mr. Barker
  has embarked on an exciting new role leading the members of this
  notable organization in remembering and commemorating the founding
  ideals of our nation and in serving their communities proudly and
  selflessly; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Ronald J. Barker on his election as
  president of the Piney Woods Chapter of the Texas Society of the
  Sons of the American Revolution and extend to him best wishes for
  continued success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Barker as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
