R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Mildred Juanita Myers and Charlie George Myers, Jr., |
|
of Longview celebrated the joyous occasion of their 60th wedding |
|
anniversary on January 20, 2007; and |
|
WHEREAS, Charlie Myers met the former "Peggy" Rucker at a |
|
roller skating rink after he had returned to Texas following his |
|
service with the U.S. Navy Seabees in World War II; they were |
|
married shortly thereafter in Kilgore and moved to Longview in |
|
1952; and |
|
WHEREAS, The parents of seven children, Charlsie Futrelle, |
|
Terri Thrasher, Becky Murray, and Matt, Larry, Jay, and the late |
|
Gregory Myers, Mr. and Mrs. Myers today delight in the company of |
|
their 24 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Myers worked for the U.S. Postal Service for 34 |
|
years before retiring in 1991; though he left high school early to |
|
enlist in the Navy, he recently completed his studies and received |
|
his diploma from Kilgore High School in 2002; and |
|
WHEREAS, A work-at-home mother for many years, Mrs. Myers |
|
also drove a school bus for the Longview Independent School |
|
District; she received her GED in 1974 and two years later earned |
|
her LVN certification; and |
|
WHEREAS, In retirement, this devoted couple enjoy reading, |
|
traveling, playing dominoes, and spending time with their friends |
|
and family; they are also active members of the Church of Jesus |
|
Christ of Latter-day Saints; and |
|
WHEREAS, Through faith and commitment to their family, |
|
Charlie and Peggy Myers have shared six decades as husband and wife, |
|
and they are among an exceptional group of men and women who can |
|
claim such a lasting achievement; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Charlie and Peggy Myers on their |
|
60th wedding anniversary and extend to them sincere best wishes for |
|
continued happiness together; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Myers as an expression of high regard by |
|
the Texas House of Representatives. |
