R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Students of the National Wildlife Federation Earth |
|
Tomorrow program in Houston are visiting the State Capitol on March |
|
15, 2007; and |
|
WHEREAS, Seeking to improve the environmental literacy and |
|
leadership skills of underserved inner-city youth, this innovative |
|
program is currently in its third year of service in the Houston |
|
Independent School District, and participants include students |
|
from Madison, Worthing, Yates, Chavez, and Westside High Schools; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Earth Tomorrow provides a wealth of opportunities |
|
for participants to develop conservation projects, gain valuable |
|
workplace experience, explore environmental careers, and develop |
|
leadership skills and build self-esteem through networking with |
|
other students, teachers, and civic leaders; students are |
|
participating in several Community Action Projects during the |
|
2006-2007 academic year, including the organization of an EcoFest |
|
Carnival for elementary-age children, the propagation of native |
|
plants in an on-campus greenhouse, and the creation of a habitat |
|
garden; and |
|
WHEREAS, The Earth Tomorrow program is successfully |
|
encouraging high school students to understand the natural world |
|
and its implications in their everyday lives, and the participants' |
|
commitment to such a worthy endeavor is indeed commendable; now, |
|
therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby welcome the students of the National Wildlife |
|
Federation Earth Tomorrow program to the State Capitol and extend |
|
to them sincere best wishes for a memorable visit; and, be it |
|
further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for the group as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
