R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, The Air Land Emergency Resource Team (ALERT) has |
|
rendered invaluable aid to countless individuals during times of |
|
crisis; and |
|
WHEREAS, ALERT is a training and service organization |
|
dedicated to providing disaster relief, search and rescue |
|
operations, and humanitarian aid at the request of public |
|
officials; and |
|
WHEREAS, The members of this outstanding group have completed |
|
an intensive 14-month training program located at the International |
|
ALERT Academy in the Piney Woods of Texas; there, they learn a |
|
variety of rescue skills, ranging from land search and water |
|
recovery to structural fire fighting and crime scene evidence |
|
searches, all of which prepare them to be of assistance in an |
|
emergency; and |
|
WHEREAS, Since its inception, ALERT men have answered the |
|
call to serve in several countries and more than 20 states; their |
|
efforts have included responding to tornadoes, floods, mud slides, |
|
and hurricanes, including Katrina and Rita, as well as conducting |
|
wilderness searches for lost people and downed aircraft, assisting |
|
officials with city improvements, and providing leadership at |
|
children's camps; and |
|
WHEREAS, The men of ALERT exemplify high ideals of character |
|
and service, and their important work truly makes a difference in |
|
the lives of countless people; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby commend the Air Land Emergency Resource Team for |
|
its notable service in behalf of people in crisis situations and |
|
extend to all members best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for ALERT as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
