R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The family and friends of U.S. Army Specialist
  Collin Ryan Schockmel of Richwood suffered an immeasurable loss
  with the death of this valiant soldier on January 16, 2007, at the
  age of 19; and
         WHEREAS, Specialist Schockmel served as a proud member of the
  1st Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd
  Infantry Division stationed in Fort Carson, Colorado; he was
  deployed to Iraq in October 2006 and died during combat operations
  in Ar Ramadi, Iraq, only days after returning from a short Christmas
  leave; and
         WHEREAS, Born on August 24, 1987, Specialist Schockmel spent
  his childhood in both Texas and Arizona; he was known for his
  fun-loving personality, musical talent on the saxophone, enjoyment
  of games, competitive spirit on the school wrestling team, and his
  generous, compassionate nature especially in regards to children,
  animals, and the elderly; and
         WHEREAS, A devout member of the local Episcopal church,
  Specialist Schockmel served as an acolyte, sang in the choir, and
  was an enthusiastic participant in all youth activities; and
         WHEREAS, Proud of his service as a soldier, he believed
  strongly in giving of his time and talents to further the ideals of
  the armed services; and
         WHEREAS, Our state and nation are fortunate to have young men
  and women whose love for their country inspires them to take up
  military service, yet the tragic death of this exemplary soldier is
  a sobering reminder of the cost of war; those who knew and loved
  Specialist Schockmel will forever carry him close in their hearts;
  now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of U.S. Army Specialist
  Collin Ryan Schockmel and extend sincere sympathy to the members of
  his family: to his mother, Kristin Shinn; to his sister, Emily
  Schockmel; to his brother, Charles Shinn; to his stepsister,
  Heather Shinn; to his stepbrother, Brian Shinn; to his grandmother,
  Bernadine Schockmel; to his aunts and uncles, Lauren and Randy
  Crim, Keith and Beth Schockmel, Matthew Schockmel and Robin
  Simpson, and Nathan Schockmel and Karen Nettles Schockmel; and to
  his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
  Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of U.S. Army
  Specialist Collin Ryan Schockmel.
