R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Captain David Baker of the Mesquite Fire Department
  has been named the department's 2007 Officer of the Year, providing
  a fitting tribute for this dedicated public servant; and
         WHEREAS, Hired as a firefighter in November 1978, Captain
  Baker has risen steadily through the ranks during his lengthy
  tenure with the department; he was promoted to engineer in 1985 and
  earned the rank of lieutenant in 1994 before attaining his current
  rank in 2000; and
         WHEREAS, Active with the United Way campaign for several
  years, Captain Baker helped the department set a record for
  donations in 2006; he also gave generously of his time to lead the
  department's "Fired Up for Santa" campaign, enabling the group to
  have its most successful gift drive to date; and
         WHEREAS, Inspiring others with his respect for tradition and
  history and his outgoing, personable nature, Captain Baker has
  earned the trust and admiration of his fellow firefighters and of
  countless members of the community, and his latest accolade is
  indicative of the high regard in which this esteemed gentleman is
  held; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Captain David Baker on his
  selection as the Mesquite Fire Department 2007 Officer of the Year
  and commend him for his continuing efforts to safeguard the homes
  and lives of his fellow citizens and make a positive difference in
  his community; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Captain Baker as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
