R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, The Watauga Public Library is building a
  5,000-square-foot addition, and this occasion provides an ideal
  opportunity to recognize this fine institution and its more than
  two decades of service to its community; and
         WHEREAS, Opened in 1983 with a collection of fewer than 2,000
  books, the library was originally headquartered in about 676 square
  feet of space in the city's Municipal Complex; it moved to its
  current site, a 15,000-square-foot structure, in 1990; and
         WHEREAS, Over the past 20 years, the library has thrived; it
  has a collection of more than 67,000 items and subscribes to more
  than 160 periodicals, and last year alone it had a total circulation
  of almost 330,000; and
         WHEREAS, A symbol of education and culture, the Watauga
  Public Library is an invaluable resource to the city and reflects
  the commitment that the citizens of Watauga are making to the
  well-being of their children; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate all those associated with the
  Watauga Public Library on the expansion of the facility and extend
  to them best wishes for the future; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for the library as an expression of high regard by the
  Texas House of Representatives.
