R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
|
WHEREAS, The Watauga Public Library is building a |
|
|
5,000-square-foot addition, and this occasion provides an ideal |
|
|
opportunity to recognize this fine institution and its more than |
|
|
two decades of service to its community; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Opened in 1983 with a collection of fewer than 2,000 |
|
|
books, the library was originally headquartered in about 676 square |
|
|
feet of space in the city's Municipal Complex; it moved to its |
|
|
current site, a 15,000-square-foot structure, in 1990; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, Over the past 20 years, the library has thrived; it |
|
|
has a collection of more than 67,000 items and subscribes to more |
|
|
than 160 periodicals, and last year alone it had a total circulation |
|
|
of almost 330,000; and |
|
|
WHEREAS, A symbol of education and culture, the Watauga |
|
|
Public Library is an invaluable resource to the city and reflects |
|
|
the commitment that the citizens of Watauga are making to the |
|
|
well-being of their children; now, therefore, be it |
|
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
|
Legislature hereby congratulate all those associated with the |
|
|
Watauga Public Library on the expansion of the facility and extend |
|
|
to them best wishes for the future; and, be it further |
|
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
|
prepared for the library as an expression of high regard by the |
|
|
Texas House of Representatives. |
