R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, Hector Parada, Jr., a senior at J. M. Hanks High
  School in El Paso, has distinguished himself through his academic
  and extracurricular achievements; and
         WHEREAS, A member of the student council for two years, Mr.
  Parada also served as the committee chair for the Hanks High School
  Interact Club and is a member of several of the school's sports
  teams; and
         WHEREAS, This two-year varsity football letterman was a
  tenacious defender who racked up 91 tackles in one season, which
  ranked as the 15th highest total in the city; his spirited play
  earned him an honorable mention among the District 1-5A defensive
  ends for 2006; he earned a second letter as a member of the track
  team, where he was district qualifier in the shot put and helped the
  team win the district championship; in addition, he played for the
  baseball team during his freshman year, when the Hanks Knights were
  co-district champions; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Parada has also been a fierce competitor in the
  classroom, where he has achieved an 87.1 grade-point average and
  completed advanced placement course work in English; and
         WHEREAS, For the promise he has shown in his high school
  career, he has been awarded a $500 scholarship from the Hanks
  Football Booster Club, and it is appropriate to take this
  opportunity to pay tribute to him as he prepares for the exciting
  challenges that lie ahead; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby commend Hector Parada, Jr., for his achievements
  at Hanks High School and extend to him best wishes for continued
  success; and, be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Parada as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
