R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Iona Vasbinder of Del Rio passed away on October 8, |
|
2006, leaving her circle of family and friends with many happy |
|
memories of time spent in her company; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Vasbinder was born on January 7, 1914, in |
|
Soper, Oklahoma; a resident of Del Rio since 1929, she worked as a |
|
study advisor with the local school district and became active in |
|
the PTA, which she served as 6th District president; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mrs. Vasbinder's desire to help others extended |
|
beyond the public school arena; she held leadership positions with |
|
the Val Verde Tuberculosis Association and the National Foundation |
|
for Polio and Birth Defects, and was appointed to the Governor's |
|
Task Force for Mental Health; she was a member of the First |
|
Presbyterian Church and served as president of the women of the |
|
church; and |
|
WHEREAS, Passionate about her political beliefs, she shared |
|
her dedication and vision with the Democratic Party and held the |
|
position of Val Verde County Democratic chair; and |
|
WHEREAS, Iona Vasbinder was beloved for her great strength of |
|
character and generous spirit; she exemplified the qualities of |
|
leadership that foster strong, caring communities, and she will |
|
long be remembered with warm affection for the causes she |
|
championed and the lives she enriched; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Iona Vasbinder and |
|
extend deepest sympathy to the members of her family: to her |
|
children, Mitzi Vasbinder, Gary Vasbinder, Cherill Koog, and Helen |
|
"Bunny" Whealton; to her grandchildren, Jay Koog, Joel Koog, Theron |
|
Vasbinder, Amy Moore, Nicole Beaman, and Kristin Jeffery; to her 13 |
|
great-grandchildren; and to her other relatives and many friends; |
|
and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for her family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day it do so in memory of Iona |
|
Vasbinder. |
