H.R. No. 880
 
 
 
R E S O L U T I O N
         WHEREAS, A 100th birthday is truly cause for celebration, and
  Rene Bordet of Conroe marked this memorable occasion in his life on
  March 2, 2007; and
         WHEREAS, The son of French immigrants Alphonse and Blanche
  Bordet, Mr. Bordet was born in 1907 in San Francisco;  he attended
  the University of California and worked as a bookkeeper for his
  family's laundry business; and
         WHEREAS, A widower and veteran who served in the U.S. Army
  during World War II, he is a deeply religious man who had the
  satisfaction of meeting the Pope in 1958, and over the years he has
  had personal visits with several cardinals of the Roman Catholic
  Church during trips to Rome; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Bordet also developed friendships with several
  movie stars from the Golden Age of film, including Gregory Peck,
  Gloria Swanson, and Ronald and Nancy Reagan; and
         WHEREAS, Mr. Bordet moved to Montgomery County at the age of
  97 to be closer to family and friends in the area; he spends his days
  reading historical novels, writing letters, and enjoying the
  fellowship of his neighbors at the Friendship Center; and
         WHEREAS, At the age of 100, Mr. Bordet continues to enrich the
  lives of his loved ones, and it is a pleasure to join them in
  honoring his long and rewarding life; now, therefore, be it
         RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas
  Legislature hereby congratulate Rene Bordet on his 100th birthday
  and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and,
  be it further
         RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
  prepared for Mr. Bordet as an expression of high regard by the Texas
  House of Representatives.
