R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, A 100th birthday is truly cause for celebration, and |
|
Rene Bordet of Conroe marked this memorable occasion in his life on |
|
March 2, 2007; and |
|
WHEREAS, The son of French immigrants Alphonse and Blanche |
|
Bordet, Mr. Bordet was born in 1907 in San Francisco; he attended |
|
the University of California and worked as a bookkeeper for his |
|
family's laundry business; and |
|
WHEREAS, A widower and veteran who served in the U.S. Army |
|
during World War II, he is a deeply religious man who had the |
|
satisfaction of meeting the Pope in 1958, and over the years he has |
|
had personal visits with several cardinals of the Roman Catholic |
|
Church during trips to Rome; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Bordet also developed friendships with several |
|
movie stars from the Golden Age of film, including Gregory Peck, |
|
Gloria Swanson, and Ronald and Nancy Reagan; and |
|
WHEREAS, Mr. Bordet moved to Montgomery County at the age of |
|
97 to be closer to family and friends in the area; he spends his days |
|
reading historical novels, writing letters, and enjoying the |
|
fellowship of his neighbors at the Friendship Center; and |
|
WHEREAS, At the age of 100, Mr. Bordet continues to enrich the |
|
lives of his loved ones, and it is a pleasure to join them in |
|
honoring his long and rewarding life; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby congratulate Rene Bordet on his 100th birthday |
|
and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued happiness; and, |
|
be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for Mr. Bordet as an expression of high regard by the Texas |
|
House of Representatives. |
