R E S O L U T I O N
|
|
WHEREAS, Dr. James David Gossett of Rankin died on August 2, |
|
2006, leaving a legacy of service to others that will continue to |
|
benefit countless Texans for years to come; and |
|
WHEREAS, Born in Garza County on September 16, 1924, Dr. |
|
Gossett grew up on his family farm during the Great Depression, |
|
knowing from a young age that he wanted to be a doctor; he served in |
|
the U.S. Army medical corps during World War II and graduated from |
|
The University of Texas Medical Branch in 1948; and |
|
WHEREAS, This notable Texan opened the Gossett Clinic in |
|
Rankin in 1952, and over the next 44 years, he earned a reputation |
|
for dedication to his patients and to their health and well-being; |
|
and |
|
WHEREAS, Dr. Gossett was also a trusted community leader who |
|
gave generously of his time and talents to a number of |
|
organizations; he was a member of the Lions Club and the Red Devil |
|
Booster Club and was the football team's physician for more than |
|
four decades; he was chairman of the Republican Party of Upton |
|
County, and he was a 30-year member of the board of trustees of |
|
Rankin ISD, serving as its president for 20 years; his many |
|
contributions to the district were recognized when a new elementary |
|
school was named in his honor in the mid-1990s; and |
|
WHEREAS, This beloved husband, father, and grandfather built |
|
a life that was rich in family, friends, and achievements; while he |
|
is deeply missed, he will always be remembered with the greatest |
|
respect and admiration; now, therefore, be it |
|
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 80th Texas |
|
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Dr. James David |
|
Gossett and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to |
|
his wife and the love of his life, Pauline B. Gossett; to his |
|
children, Anne Hamilton and her husband, Dan, the Honorable Tom |
|
Gossett and his wife, Linda, Bryan Gossett and his wife, Nancy, |
|
Kitty Sue Proctor and her husband, Ray, Linda Ann Tucker, and Jamie |
|
Dee Senter and her husband, Dr. Paul Senter; to his 15 grandchildren |
|
and four great-grandchildren; to his brother, Ralph Gossett; and to |
|
his other relatives and many friends; and, be it further |
|
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be |
|
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of |
|
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Dr. James |
|
David Gossett. |
